Jack Wears A Memory For Memorial Day
Jack is probably going to hate me when he grows up. I’m continually thinking of these “great ideas!” as I call them, involving myself, the camera, Jack, and miscellaneous “things” such as, but not limited to; carousels, tall grass, rainboots, horses, kitchen sinks, airplanes, boutiques, and in this case, Grandad’s old sailor suit from WWII.

His name was William S. Bowling, but we called him Grandad. He loved gardening and garage sales. He let us drive his lawn mower at precarious speeds around his back yard. He occasionally swatted us when we got mouthy. He would take empty two-liters and cut them up into strange styles of lawn ornaments that caught the wind and twirled; he called them “whirligigs.” (As a teenager, I thought they were ridiculous, but I’ve since changed my mind and I really wish I had one).
Amazingly, Grandad stayed married to the same woman, my sweet little Granny, for over 66 years. He passed away just three days before their 67th anniversary. Jack was born one month later.
Jack will never know his Grandad, but he can share my good memories.

It may look like an oversized nightgown to you, but it’s a memory for me.

What are some things that you treasure from your grandparents?
