This milestone of graduation brings excitement, nostalgia (and a bit of pressure). You may have questions such as "How much? When do we do this? What's involved? Why Calotype?" 

Let me answer your questions!

How Long Does It Take for Portraits?

The Session itself takes 30-60 minutes. After you have portraits taken, you'll come back within a week (sometimes same-day) to view and order your portraits. Digital downloads are ready upon payment.

What Should My Senior Wear?

One outfit they choose, and one outfit you choose. No matter your style preferences, I believe both parent and teen have a unique perspective on themselves that will reflect in their outfit choice. If you have specific concerns, I'll address it in our consultation.

Will My Teen Be Awkward in the Studio?

Maybe. A lot of ordinary people are! But it's my job to work through insecurities and ennui to pull out a bit of their personality. Every one has at least one attractive feature (young people usually have many) and I will highlight it.

What’s Everyone Else Doing?

Most of my HS seniors are photographed in the fall/winter part of the school year. They usually do two outfits and many of them include their family for a few pictures in the studio. Most go on to purchase a 20 image album once they see (and love) their portraits.

Can We Get Both Traditional and Creative Photos?

Of course. I love the classics and pride myself on creating timeless portraits. However, I'm easily bored and my brain fires constantly with new and creative ideas. I can't wait to try them out on new victims! I mean CLIENTS. Yes, yes- that's what I mean.

How Do We Pick the Best Photos?

We’ll meet in my studio a few days after the session. I’ll project the images on a big screen, and we’ll choose your favorites together. Purchased digital images go home with you that day.

What If My Kid Doesn’t Like Them?

Because we talked beforehand and I've listened carefully to your concerns, the images always turn out better than expected!

How Much Will It Cost?

Senior portraits at Calotype range from 300-1800, depending on whether you choose studio (less money) or outdoor (more) and how many outfits you bring. Payment plans are available- please ask.

How Much For Senior Portraits?

A Session fee is $175 (studio) and $275 (outdoor and studio or outdoor only) covering a tailored, creative experience to capture the perfect shot. Images are purchased separately at $95 each, allowing you to choose only the ones you love. Purchase as many or as few as you like.

What To Expect with Senior Year Photoshoot Sessions


Senior Portrait Sessions are available Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays. Schedule online and pay your Session fee to book. I'll contact you after scheduling to determine your needs or pain points. We

A Studio Session takes about 30 minutes. We'll collaborate on poses and looks that reflect your style. If something’s not perfect, we’ll refine it together! 

Give me an hour after the Session to work on your images, then I'll show them to you on the big screen. We'll narrow it down to your favorites, and you'll receive purchased images right away. We can also review your images by video call.
