3 THINGS EXPERIENCED MOMS KNOW ABOUT SENIOR PICTURES
Are you shocked to hear yourself saying over the phone, “Hi, I need some info about senior pictures?”
Has it already been 12 years since they started kindergarten, and you nervously wondered how they would make it through the morning without mama? Now here you are, planning their senior year- - - still wondering how they’re going to make it in the real world without Mom right beside them!
Good news- it’s ok for moms to guide their kids and model best practices for them. Teens may not admit it out loud, but they need their moms, too. This last year of high school is a perfect time to help prepare them for the future, with the wisdom and experience that parents offer. Moms have lived through a few things, and when it comes to senior pictures, here are three things experienced moms know to be true:
1. It’s important to look good
When teens look great and KNOW they look great, their confidence rises. Of course, YOU KNOW they’re beautiful and you see the hidden depths that others may not see. A good portrait photographer can see it, too- and draw it out and put it on printed photographs that forever provide the proof. One mom told me, with tears in her eyes, “This will forever change how my son sees himself.” No matter how many times YOU tell them, teens tend to think, “Oh, that’s just mom.” But when a third party validates with factual photographs, it proves yet again… “Mom was right.”
2. The sooner you do it, the better you feel
That year flies by, and if you wait too long you’ll feel flustered and not have as many options. Most seniors schedule their senior pictures with us in the fall of their senior year. It’s never too early to take action! But if almost graduation- don’t panic- I still have time for you!
3. Don’t overthink it
There’s such a trend to be epic in everything- but a simple white dress, or a faded blue t-shirt that matches their eyes- those are simple things that strip the extras away and make you focus on what’s truly important- this wonderful child of yours.
