Location: the fire station, and a field personally scouted by the mom who knew exactly what she wanted. Photographed the first week of April, right before trees were leafy but when the spring wildflowers were starting to show. Time was between 6-7 PM so the Session ran right into twilight.
Photographed at the falls in Joplin and in the studio, mid-March.
FYI- most senior boys do 1-2 outfits. It depends on the person, but I suggest something casual, something nice, and (if they’re willing to invest the attention) something related to their current interests. A Senior Session can last an hour, or only 20 minutes if they want to dash and go. When you call me, tell me a little about the senior’s personality so we can decide what approach works best.
Senior pictures are something you don’t want to miss out on.
Celebrate surviving your first year of parenting! They’re only this little once. Bring them in so you can remember how precious they are at this stage.
Plus, at this age they let YOU choose their outfits. Parents of older kids know what I mean.
DID YOU KNOW: If you book a Portrait Session during the month of the child’s birthday, I have a special gift for you? Just ask me when you call!
Double the trouble with two daughters…! Wish this dad some luck and enjoy these images from their Father/Daughter Portrait Session.

My favorite (most effective) way to communicate with people is in real life- in person or by phone.
Second- my email list! It’s how I do model searches and studio specials, and occasionally it’s used for gathering opinions as I plan for future Calotype events. I LOVE asking people what they want and figuring out how to do it! I do use Instagram occasionally, but I’m better at communicating my thoughts by typing on a horizontal screen (my laptop). Is this because I was born in 1981? Using my thumbs on a tiny vertical screen leaves me… underwhelmed. Social media is usually the last place to know about what I’m doing at Calotype, which is supposedly a big NO NO according to *SoCiAl MeDiA ExPeRtS* but we shall see. I like to do what I like to do, and today Julie says the email list gets my attention. Sign up so we can discuss- I always respond back to your emails!
Time spent with our children is never a loss.

This little guy’s face may look familiar on my journal. His parents are in our First Year Baby Club, and they have graciously allowed us to share many of his images. Their favorites from all six of his Sessions- newborn, six weeks, three, six, nine and twelve months will be collected onto one piece of canvas wall art for their wall. Keeping a heritage like this for your child is a precious gift to yourself and them. Call me and I’m happy to discuss our exclusive Baby Club options!
Are you looking for a way to let your daughter know how special she is? A Birthday Portrait Session at Calotype might be just what she needs!
Many little girls love the experience and attention they receive during a photoshoot, plus you have the photographs themselves to keep as a memory.

Right before Christmas, I photographed this family of three. Missionaries to Myanmar, they are home on furlough and I am honored they chose Calotype for professional family portraits. You can read more about their missions adventures here.
